RIP Matthew Baylis 1987 – 2007

Army Pfc. Matthew E. Baylis, 20, of Oakdale, N.Y., died May 31 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered on May 30 when his dismounted patrol encountered enemy small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Matt was one of 125 American soldiers killed in May 2007.

My heart is with Laurie, Richard, the extended Baylis family, and especially Matt’s brother – my lifelong friend and bandmate Marc. At Berklee when we were roommates (roughly from 1995-1997), I remember Marc bringing cassettes of home recordings from Summer/holiday breaks with Matt playing drums and/or singing. He was probably eight or nine years old at the time, and the “demos” were much to our amusement.

T and I send positive thoughts. Namaste.
