I know a lot of people who talk a lot of shit about President GW Bush. It’s generally indirect, non-constructive criticism such as, “Can you believe how retarded the President is?”, and “I hate that fucking guy!”. I will often press statements as such, curious to know why individuals from different walks of life strongly dislike the current President of the United States so much. I usually get no further than either, “I don’t know…I just hate him!”, or maybe bullshit catch phrases that cite the “War for Oil” and other rhetoric that has a nice ring to it, but no substance or ammunition. Because of this, I can only surmise that most folks – or perhaps just my generation (X) and younger folk – don’t know why they bitterly hate GW. Their hatred is totally blind and surprisingly (or maybe not) both misguided and unfounded.
So, in an effort to help educate those who strongly dislike GW but don’t know why, I’m going to give you a trump card that you can use when you are voicing your taut displeasure for the sitting commander-in-chief. When someone asks you why you don’t like GW, simply utter the two words, “foreign policy”. If asked to expound on your point of view, you can cite, “The Bush Administration’s foreign policy” and begin painting with slightly broader strokes and colors.
For instance, you can improvise a short diatribe which could include rhetoric in the form of, “The Bush Administration’s foreign policy has undermined America’s global legitimacy”. If you don’t want to sound like you’re quoting the news (or a book by Brzezinski), you could more plainly say, “Thanks to GW, the rest of world now views us as being the initiators of a war of choice, and that we are incapable of protecting ourselves/others.”
A longer, more poignant diatribe should probably utilize something to the effect of, “The March 2003 invasion of Iraq was the worst foreign policy blunder in the history of the United States of America”. This can be echoed by such sentiment as, “President Bush has no knowledge of global complexities, and along with his administration, he has inflated anti-American sentiment all over the world”.
The cherry on top can be the pointing out that the phrase, “They hate us for our freedom!”, which is uttered quite frequently by GW, is any empty slogan that best defines the gross incompetence and foreign policy oversimplification of the Bush Administration.
Using this rough outline, your mission should indeed be…accomplished!
